1962 – 2018
Susan was born in Windsor, Ontario and grew up in Ottawa. She moved to BC in 1995 with her son Jake and future husband Gerald Dewan.
After Jake was diagnosed with autism, she became a fierce advocate of equal opportunities for him; becoming a Director on the Board of the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion, and was presented with several awards in recognition of her hard work.
She had boundless energy and in her spare time, she collected rescue dogs.
Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. Joining Abreast In A Boat in 2009, she paddled at Barnet Beach and later at Rocky Point in 2012. She then helped start up the Metastatic Breast Cancer research site. Sadly, cancer returned in 2012 and she fought it bravely.
She always had a smile on her face and paddled hard in spite of her health! She made many friends and continued to keep in touch with her crew mates until the end.
Susan is missed by all who knew her in her many “hats.”
