Joyce joined Abreast In A Boat in 2002 and was one of the “Langley Laughing Ladies” who carpooled to False Creek twice weekly. She immediately embraced the spirit of AIAB! She paddled for three years and with the inception of the new venue at Fort Langley, became Co-Manager/Sunshine Girl for the crew.
Joyce was one of the Society’s best volunteers: she helped carve a dragon boat head, manned water stations and participated in different breast cancer charitable runs, volunteered at the AIAB information booth, helped in the construction of “Jeannie Lea”, and golfed in a variety of breast cancer tournaments as well as assisted at the CBCF “Think Pink” information displays at Safeway.
Joyce loved to golf almost as much as she loved paddling! She was a member at Newlands Golf Club and many of us enjoyed her “spirited” companionship on the course. She also liked to play cards and organized games at her complex. Above all she loved her family: husband, Ken and her three sons, Peter (Yuki), Darcy (who pre-deceased her by a week) and John (Carolyn) as well as her granddaughter, Julie.
