Dorothy passed away on October 22 1997 at the age of 53.
Dorothy was one of the people who signed up for the team in January 1997. She started paddling with us in April 1997 but all too soon had complications for her breast cancer that made it impossible for her to continue, though she carried on bravely as long as she could. It was a token of our hopes and prayers for her recovery that we tossed the roses into the water at the end of our first race. We carried her headband tied to our boat because she wanted so badly to be there with us. Although Dorothy lost her battle with cancer in October 1997 and her paddling days were short, we will remember her as a special person.
