Bernadette passed away in December 2002.
Our Acadian, Bernadette, joined AIAB in 1997 and was captain and steersperson for the all-novice team Breast Strokes. She steered again for the travelling team that went to the Toronto festival in 1998, and the Vancouver team Amazons Abreast in 1999. She was always enthusiastic and caring with a smile for everyone.
Bernadette was a carpenter and specialized in ‘finish’ work, and she had also done some teaching in her field. She loved the outdoors and cross-country skiing. Her forte was bicycling, having toured in Yugoslavia, Turkey and Hungary.
She longed to return to her own milieu and Acadian culture and did return to New Brunswick with her hopes of setting up a Bed & Breakfast with her Francophone contacts in Louisiana. We received the news of her passing with heavy hearts.
