Feb – Joy Yorath was recognized by the Canadian Institute for Health Research for distinguished service.
Jan – The Exercise and Cancer Research Facility in Vancouver opens.
2002
Jun – AIAB was recognized as both ‘Warriors’ and ‘Dragons’ by the Chinese Cultural Centre.
Apr – AIAB received the Board of Trade’s “Spirit of Vancouver” award for innovative support and encouragement of survivors of breast cancer in the category of Community Organization.
2001
Oct – Dr. Don McKenzie receives the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General in Ottawa for helping initiate and develop the program that has benefited hundreds of breast cancer survivors across the world.
2000
Nov – Dr. Don McKenzie was the recipient of the Faculty Citation Community Service Award at the UBC 2000 Alumni Awards event for his research in the effects of exercise on breast cancer patients and for the development of the “Abreast In A Boat” program of rehabilitation and information.

Oct – AIAB Society was presented with the Community Achievement Award at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Awareness Day 2000 Fundraising Luncheon.
Oct – AIAB won the Community Team Excellence Award at the CIBC Run for the Cure by raising $21,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
May – Brenda Hochachka, captain of the original boat and first President of the Abreast In A Boat Society, received an award as the 2000 YWCA Woman of Distinction for Sport and Recreation.

Feb – The AIAB Global TV documentary, “Through Fire and Water” by Janice Talbot received a finalist award at a New York media festival.
1998
AIAB received a Promotion Plus Leadership Award in the Team Category.
AIAB received the CTV Success Story of the Year Award at the Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival.
1997
Oct – Abreast In A Boat Society was formed.
1996
June – The first ever Abreast In A Boat crew participated at the International Dragon Boat Festival in Vancouver and received the David Lam Award for the team that best exemplified community spirit at the Festival.
