This amazing poem was written by 2017 novice Nikol Fawcett. Truly amazing!
hard water...heart pounding
watch paddle...keep counting
keep going...don't falter
Speed picks up, a breeze skims hair
Water flying, calls on the air
POWER 10 NOW
Hit the water...drive it in, 100%...we can win...
Back off now, save some strength
so we can surge that final length.
Feel the rhythm, this isn't luck.
Feel our power, glide the buk.
Watch the paddle, keep in time
do not let that stroke rate climb.
Time your breath, you can last
finish line is come fast.
80%...what is that?
My body wants to go out flat
FINISH IT NOW
Breath erupts...heart is racing
it all comes down to practiced pacing.
Controlled aggression in our limbs,
the world around begins to dim.
The paddle in front consumes your view
you count your strokes
wait for the cue...
LET IT RUN
breath stutters...race is done
HOLD THE BOAT
arms shake...catch breath
take a break
Lean back...body spent
look around...judge event
One handed pats to back and knees
all of us listening to each other wheeze
no one talking...as if we could
after giving so much...no one should
Coach is praising, our drive, our pull
body wrecked, but heart so full
I DID IT...WE DID IT...
cannot compare...the rush of power we suddenly share
PADDLES UP, TAKE IT AWAY
to be repeated another day ... See MoreSee Less
